Home Sweet Search
I’ve been looking at realtor websites for like over a year, but I finally got approved for a mortgage. Just today I looked at my first two homes. Thankfully my folks were able to come along. It’s crazy how the last time I moved was nearly a decade ago. Our whole family participated in that search back when I was in middle school, we tried to all go to the showings, and we would imagine living there and see past cosmetic imperfections. In fact, we had to be in the selling and search process for about a year and a half, but that’s a story for another day. The first…

The Clothes, the Shoes, and the Wardrobe
See what I did there? 😉 Yeah I have a lot of clothes, as I’ve mentioned before my wardrobe is fairly diverse, but also very affordable, what with the number of pieces I have been given, and the number of clearance deals, I find, add on top the fact that I’m not growing out of hardly anything anymore. It doesn’t show any sign of downsizing. That said, I’ve also been scared of getting rid of items for lack of knowing what my work wardrobe would be upon getting a full-time role. Now that I know I can wear anything from smart casual to jeans and a vacation/company t-shirt, to even…

Gentlemen and Ladies
I saw Guys & Dolls last night at the Guthrie Theatre with a friend. I was quite fun, especially after having seen the old movie a couple of times previously. The best actor/actress at the show last night was the woman who played Miss Adelaide. She was really fun and did a good job with the role. Most everything was spot on, but her performance stood out. It was interesting to see how the stage set changed the show as a whole. It was hardly a bad change, but it just meant a different dynamic. I was surprised by how much I liked the on-stage performances of Sky and Nathan,…

When Sales Works and Helps Someone
In my new role, I’ve called a number of businesses in an effort to see if they’d find our product helpful. Although the person on the other end of the line can be a bit apprehensive at first, when my coworker has visited he’s come back with great notes, about how the client is excited to use our services. This all got me thinking about what I used to think of sales and a post I wrote a while back on how good salesmen (and women) are not the enemy. I believe a good salesman is not one that pushes beyond what they should. I’m talking about salesmen that have…

Be Social With Work
I went out to eat with some coworkers after work this evening. We hung out in celebration of a coworkers baby shower. It was nice to socialize and get to know people better. I’m finally part of a workforce, I’m at a place where I’d like to be for a while. I already enjoy hanging out with my coworkers. We all have similar perspectives, and experience at work yet its a relatively diverse group with various passions. We all have a common goal of success and being great as a whole company. While hanging out tonight we actually talked a bit about work, the markets we’re entering different techniques and…

Work-Life Balance
My new job is great already, it’s an awesome environment that I believe will only get even better over time! The balance even goes beyond work and life. Even during work, there are sure to be levels of balance. Whether it’s being on the phone for a solid half hour with different prospects at certain times, engaging with coworkers about various sales or marketing tactics, or even having an all-team meeting once a week. There are various important elements that keep a workforce engaged while avoiding burn out. I can already tell that this present at Dispatch. While there are clear goals, there’s also an open office setting as I…

Avoiding the Lure
I heard a sermon from Francis Chan the other evening. It was all about comparing temptation to God’s plan for us. It was a really compelling message, and it reminded me of some important things about my relationship with God. God loves us so much. Francis, during the sermon, mentioned how we are not only God’s beloved children that he loves, we, as the church are also the bride of Christ. Francis likened sin to cheating on that marriage. I had never heard this comparison, but I thought it was good for the most part. It was a good challenge to think that that’s how poorly sin affects us. It…

A Treat for the Season
I love water skiing, even though I quickly became scared of it when I was little. After a little encouragement and an alternative method for trying came about and worked, I got up. My Mom is a terrific skier, even after two years of not getting behind a boat, and even though she’s not 20 anymore she can still get up within a few tries and drop a ski within 10 seconds like its no big deal. Every time she’s up she’s grinning ear to ear, I honestly love watching her ski, because the joy is so contagious. My Dad is also good, I will also add! I think seeing…

Provide a Solution
At Dispatch, the goal is to remedy bad delivery services for businesses. That is, Dispatch has found a pain point and found a solution, and made it easy for businesses to integrate it. One of my bosses mentioned that we’re a sort of pain reliever to businesses, not only in how we are able to provide service but also in how we’re able to save our clients money. Think about what you can do to provide a solution either to a business or to any given individual. Can you help a business run more effectively, or could you perhaps make life better for others? This is all of course just…

I’ve Got a Desk!
I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but after having jumped between so many different contract roles, its a welcome change to have a company computer, workspace, and soon to be phone that is mine. I went to my first company meeting on Wednesday actually and it was wonderful. I enjoyed hearing about what the company is doing, what the team has already accomplished and to be a part of such a stellar group. In fact, even remote employees from all across the country join this call. Before these meetings have been so temporary at contract roles as I know its nothing permanent to get excited about, and…
