    Peopleships

This was a term we made up at camp when I worked there – it was to describe any kind of human connection really from family relationships, to couples, to friends, to colleagues, your church congregation, and everything else. As a team, we realized it was a helpful way to describe these instead of relationships at camp. I’ve tried to learn a lot about peopleships over the years, figuring out how to best relate to others and see how I fit in my peopleships. Now though it can be harder than ever to figure people out, there’s politics in everything and I’m not talking about the government. I’m talking about…

Merry Christmas! – My Digital Christmas Card

I hope this letter finds you all well, and enjoying celebrating Christ’s birth with loved ones. I had a busy year myself and I realized it was time for me to start some of my own traditions. Namely writing a letter – but since I already have a spot to write here I thought I would just send my Christmas greetings from here. Outside of swing dancing throughout the year, getting in some great pick up hockey and writing here’s what’s been happening this year. I started off this year early in the morning and went on a solo trip to LA on the 1st and stayed there until the…

    An Honorable Welcome

This past Saturday my whole family went to the airport to pick up my grandpa from the airport. He finally got the chance to participate in Honor Flight Twin Cities. It’s a one day trip for World War II, Korean, and Vietnam veterans to see the memorials that are in Washington DC in their honor. Many of my family members went to the airport last weekend to welcome him home from the trip. It was a wonderful evening with fun surprises! And what a trip it was! My grandpa, and my great-uncle, who accompanied him on the trip, flew out of the airport at 6:00 in the morning. They got…

    A Whole New World

My parents took my sister and me on a trip to Disney world in summer of 2005, here’s why it was great and what a kid (like myself at the time) can learn from this kind of trip. I love Disney, even in college when asked to come up with what my favorite brand was I decided to write down Disney. I know it’s a huge corporation and everything, but I still grew up with this stuff, and love many of the movies to this day. Let me first acknowledge that my parents took me at a nearly perfect age. Just before I turned 10, I was old enough to…

    Pin-Ball

My grandparents have a lot of cool antiques in their home. Our current family favorite is their pinball machine. We played it at Christmas and almost every time we come over now we squeeze in a game. It’s fun to enjoy the old machine as it’s from 1962 and try to beat each other’s score. My aunt has the high score right now, I’m…working on it. From simple toys and games, to old board games, these items still have value in today’s culture. These toys are often simple but well made, and still fun. That isn’t to diminish the value of new technology and the good toys and games it…

    Send Me a Postcard

My parents recently left on a vacation that’s been a decade in the making. I kid you not. They just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary (congrats Mom and Dad!). They had a celebratory dinner on the actual day at the cafe (read: restaurant) where they had their wedding rehearsal dinner, and now they’re celebrating together on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii. They’ve gone on trips before but neither one of them has been there yet, and it’s been on their bucket lists for, again, at least a decade, probably longer. Before they left my Mom and I talked in the car about what they should bring home for…

    Cousin Times

I love hanging out with my cousins, and I’m so grateful to have them all in my life! From family dinners to pool parties to game nights, and seeing some at school growing up, they’re practically like siblings at this point. I know i’m very fortunate that I’m mostly in the middle of the age range. I even have one on both sides that were each born the same year as me. Take yesterday, I got to drive over to my cousin’s dorm and pick him up for dinner at Chipotle! He’d barely been there before but enjoyed his order and we got to talk about summer and what we…
