    Month 9 at a StartUp

    I wrote a post about week 9 at a startup so it seemed like it was about time to write again. Mind you I’m now in the middle of my ninth month, but I wanted to write about what I’ve been up to.     When Marketing Takes an Unexpected Turn

    I’ve been prospecting on Yelp this week, I know it sounds random, but I can see tons of related business, they’re ratings and links to their websites. What I also see is advertisements for other related/local companies. I click those. Those people clearly want the business that the one whose page I currently on would otherwise get. Especially if I can connect to both business, we could also help both remain competitive.     Remarkable

    What makes an idea remarkable? That’s the question posed by Seth Godin in his book Purple Cow. He starts by saying that a purple cow would be remarkable! He’s right, no one has ever seen a purple cow before, and you wouldn’t even have to use much marketing on it because it would market itself to a large extent.     I went out to eat with some coworkers after work this evening. We hung out in celebration of a coworkers baby shower. It was nice to socialize and get to know people better. I’m finally part of a workforce, I’m at a place where I’d like to be for a while. I already enjoy hanging out with my coworkers.     Work-Life Balance

    My new job is great already, it’s an awesome environment that I believe will only get even better over time! The balance even goes beyond work and life. Even during work, there are sure to be levels of balance. Whether it’s being on the phone for a solid half hour with different prospects at certain times, engaging with coworkers about various sales or marketing tactics, or even having an all-team meeting once a week.     Provide a Solution

    At Dispatch, the goal is to remedy bad delivery services for businesses. That is, Dispatch has found a pain point and found a solution, and made it easy for businesses to integrate it. One of my bosses mentioned that we’re a sort of pain reliever to businesses, not only in how we are able to provide service but also in how we’re able to save our clients money.     I’ve Got a Desk!

    I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but after having jumped between so many different contract roles, its a welcome change to have a company computer, workspace, and soon to be phone that is mine. I went to my first company meeting on Wednesday actually and it was wonderful.     You Can Find Me at Dispatch

    Big news everyone. I got a job! I started today and although it was mostly HR orientation meetings it was great to be at work, and getting things done. So what is Dispatch? – you might ask. Well the simplest way to explain for me is a cross between a courier and Uber, or Uber for packages. It’s all about an app and the transport vehicles that make it all happen. It’s a two and a half-year-old startup in Bloomington, MN. I’ll be working as a Business Development Representative.     Digital Guerrillas

    Marketing is one of my passions, I’m fascinated by it, and I certainly haven’t learned everything yet.
