    Digital First

I find a lot of value in the digital world, and although not everything I do or use is digital, for instance as I write this I’m listening to my record player…mostly because I just turned off my premium listening streaming service, in favor of saving money by listening to the free version for a little while. Calendars are another thing that I know really only use digitally nowadays. I use to use planners in high school, but since my school used the Google program suite, I started using google calendar or “g-cal” and just kept with it. I love that I can easily share my schedule and events with…

    Get Stuff Done

Ban yourself from Netflix, close the candy crush app, sign out of Facebook, and get stuff done. Don’t put off getting your car work done, if you can afford it at all, get it done. Don’t put off finishing that home improvement/cleaning project. Write the email to your coworker. Get the design done. Brainstorm and write it down. Get Stuff done. Do I always do this? No. The thing is that I know that’s helpful. I have done it. I was challenged by one of my advisors to read more. I read a whole novel in a week this past week, and though I’ve been short on work this week,…

    Buy Low Sell High

I love asking for nuggets of wisdom, often people will tell me the first thing that comes to their heads, and I kind of love that. I get to hear what they’re currently thinking about or at least something that has stuck with them. So when I heard “buy low sell high” from a family member, I knew there was something there. I want to break down the phrase, the idea it’s getting as is that anything you buy you should try and purchase at a good value, whether it’s a low-cost item or a higher cost item, you should almost never be paying more than the quality/value demands. There…

    Pop Up Shop

I’ve visited stores like these before. These are usually stores that are hosting a temporary location, where they’ll move in with their top product lines, and then leave in about a month. In other cases, its an “experience” and the pop-up space is about design and fun elements to explore with friends and photography. This month was different though. Through my contract work agency, I got the chance to be part of setting up a pop-up clothing store from New York. It was interesting to see it come together in a local photography studio, and then take down the operation afterward. Building a business from the ground up and then…

There’s No One Element to Getting a Job

Take it from a gal who has edited her resume, website, and made projects for numerous job applications. It starts with a resume. That’s not where it ends but it starts here so you have one list that, if nothing else, you can focus on. Having a resume allows you to track your progress, visually and see every element on one page. This week I helped my sister improve her resume from what I’ve learned she may be an education major, but many of the same elements applied and I guided here Next is your website. Even if it’s a free one, have one to send people to put all…

    The Business of Email

Social Media is important, but so is email; it can’t be too often, not too little, great content, helpful links, engaging ideas and titles, a lot goes into a good email. While working a contract role at a private k-12 in my area I learned how MailChimp worked. I used their templates but had to figure out how to edit in the up-to-date information each time (about weekly). I have also created a MailChimp account of my own to see what it looks like to try and brand an email from scratch, its an interesting and engaging process, thinking through every element and how you want to greet the receiver.…

    Watching the Tube

Many high Schoolers admit it’s their favorite platform, but for many people, they go to YouTube more than they turn on regular old TV. Whether it’s to learn, for comedy, or just for entertainment, it’s a huge part of our culture today. I heard on the radio once that now one of the number one career choices kids have in mind as they grow up is to be a “YouTuber”. Whether or not you think that’s a legitimate choice or not it shows the importance and impact of this platform. For my apprenticeship program, I decided I wanted to combine marketing, education, and self improvement of my on camera skills…

    On-Site Value Comunication

If you haven’t guessed by the platform this was written on I know WordPress.org. I enjoyed putting my website together, for the most part, I’ll admit it was a bit of a learning experience though, figuring out where all the settings were and what not. I have created galleries, posted multiple photos, developed my portfolio, added a subscribe button, created a contact form, among other elements. I’ve even added analytics so I can see what parts of my site get the most hits. WordPress.org is a great software and I’ve learned how to make it work well for my needs and purposes. Websites can show off so much great work…

Text Me, Message Me, If You Wanna Reach Me

What’s the sich? Yeah I know…I watched a lot of Kim Possible in the 2000s. To be honest its my text tone on my phone, when it’s not on silent. Also there’s other ways to reach me than just texts and messages. That said, I use multiple platforms for messaging, calling, and video chatting and although I have my personal favorites I understand quite a few, and see the value in them. Favorites Personal – I really love iMessage and Facetime from Apple, I can send diverse messages, and see the messages come in cleanly on all my platforms. It’s so easy! I also really like Facebook messenger. Especially since…

    A Blank Canva

I have come to love design. Since middle of college when I started finding great tools, and teaching myself, and learning what I like. Canva is one of the main tools I use for design. I love the fact that there’s templates to use, but that I can do with them whatever I want. Usually I just get inspired by the templates and then rework them to make them my own. The templates show my what elements, and styling professionals have used that looks good so I can know I’m going in a great direction. Though I also enjoy starting some from scratch. It goes back to the fact that…
