When Marketing Takes an Unexpected Turn

I’ve been prospecting on Yelp this week, I know it sounds random, but I can see tons of related business, they’re ratings and links to their websites. What I also see is advertisements for other related/local companies. I click those. Those people clearly want the business that the one whose page I currently on would otherwise get. Especially if I can connect to both business, we could also help both remain competitive. But instead I’m going to call them for a sales call in hopes to help them be even more competitive against their competition by using my company’s product.

So marketers, watch for who might see your ad. It could be a salesman who will provide you with a service that will help your business become or remain competitive.

Marketing is so much more than strategizing for your end customer to notice you, it’s understanding who else will and how you can use that to your advantage.

Marketing is also about getting new employees, servers, drivers, agents, workers on your team and making sure that HR is seeing the right people.

Marketing is about getting in front of the right salesman that can help your business.

It’s about getting in front of all the right people who will allow your business to grow, customers, new staff, new product opportunities, and new tech options alike.

Honestly, there’s a lot more to marketing than what I mentioned above, but this is a good starting point.

Then there’s “moment of interest” marketing.

This involves workers seeking out specific emails from another company. It’s about getting in the person’s inbox, or on their phone line at the right time, it’s about making the meeting, or sale at the right time. That means communicating well, but it first means finding the right information. It’s honestly sales with a marketing attitude if you will.

In just four short weeks its been interesting to try to figure out how I can combine my sales and marketing knowledge as I move forward.

So the next time a salesman calls your business, consider that although there’s a lot of bad ones out there, this one could be the one you truly need in a way you never could’ve dreamed, so maybe give them a minute or even two, eh?
