Ometepe and My Family

The summer after I graduated high school my family took a missions trip with others from our church to Nicaragua to help with kids after school program, among other things.

This trip was a wonderful, and unique opportunity for our family. We enjoyed planning for and serving on this trip. From the beginning, this seemed like an intriguing opportunity because we would all get to try our hand at missions work together.

During the trip, we helped serve with a missionary couple on the island of Ometepe. It was a beautiful place and we got to contribute with the rest of the team from our church in helping with the basic construction of a new building, we also got to hang out with kids at an after-school program so-to-speak. We also were blessed with the opportunity to pray over various families in the small island community and enjoyed a day of kayaking and sightseeing as well.

That said, ake adventures to new places with your family if you can. Whether it be to a different city, state or country. I was pleasantly surprised by how the four of us enjoyed visiting Nicaragua so much, it was an amazing learning and serving experience. We got to see a unique, new place together.

Missions trips aren’t perfect by any means. In fact, I think a part of my mission field as a Christian and by calling is reaching the lost around my home in Minnesota, but I’m still very grateful, and always will be for that week on Ometepe in 2014.
