A Christian’s First Calling

Last weekend I went on a retreat with the youth group I volunteer with. Not only did the students get the chance to learn, so did I.

Although the theme was Dominion and there was tons of medieval moments the speaker actually focused on sheep, and how as Christians, Christ is our shepherd. She talked about how Jesus protects and provides us, and how he provides life to the fullest. He also tears down lies to protect us. Trust in God instead of what you think you know.

When our group got to discuss the speakers lesson as just our church youth group we got to have some great conversations. It left me thinking about what I wanted to take away from the weekend.

We talked a lot about how we need to take our faith us wherever we go. The main thing that stayed with me was that Christ and following him as our shepherd is our first calling in life. It’s where we take it that becomes our second calling, from jobs, to education, to various ministries, etc. This was a good challenge for me, it reminded me of a similar lesson I’d learned a while ago; my identity is found in Christ. It’s not found in my work, even though I should work hard at what I do because I’m working for my Lord, not just for man.

Us leaders challenged the students to pass on the lesson from the weekend to their friends. So this is me following through with that challenge in part. Let me know if you have questions about this, I’d love to share 🙂 @katherineglader

Oh, and by the way, our church won the dodgeball tournament. #gogpc
