Do Your Boss a Favor – Praxis Wednesday Response

Last night was Praxis Wednesday, and this time it was a group discussion. It was fun to catch up with those from other modules.  We had the chance to discuss the past month with other current participants and then heard from 3 Praxis graduates. It was helpful to hear how they had been successful in their fields, and what to do in order to succeed ourselves.

Take steps to impress your business partner/boss, and show them what you want to do to add value in your own way, they just might appreciate your initiative. Whether it’s taking them out to lunch to suggest an idea of yours or suggesting a way you could help fulfill a need that’s already been presented in the business.

Be willing to learn anything. Even if it’s not your forte, if you are open to new challenges your business partner will see that you are ready to add value anywhere to their business. You’ll always be learning.

The three graduates all noted that we need to understand that when it comes down to it we know nothing about the business; we need to be ready to learn and potentially relearn concepts that present themselves differently in a given business. We’ll be walking into a new world, and have to understand that we are the newbies.

Another thing that stood out to me was when the group noted that followup emails and value props are GOLDEN, this reminded my of how I can better focus my efforts and organization for the better. I want to build social capital in this way, among others.

Being an apprentice will be a new endeavor for me, and one that I’m excited for. I want to provide value for a business, build social capital, and learn a lot.
