The Fighting Loons
I enjoy sports, and while I don’t need to see every game, whether on tv or live, it’s fun to experience a game once in a while. This evening I had the opportunity to see the Minnesota United FC play at their new Allianz Field in St. Paul. I went with the youth group I volunteer with at my church. It was fun to not only go with some familiar faces but to see my first live game at the new stadium. It was a nice space! It’s a unique looking space, it has comfy seats, though the rows are quite skinny. We had great seatings about 20 rows up…

Holy Guacamole
Since college, I’ve come to love guacamole (guac). Every once in a while I’ll get some with my burritos, or order a meal with it at a restaurant. One day I decided I wanted to try making my own at home, I thought, maybe it’ll be cheap and easy. So I looked up recipes online. I tried one and although it was relatively simple, it called for a lot of ingredients. I did it all and it was good, but I wondered if I could make it simpler. I did. Although my recipe is bare bones if you just want a snack and you have these 2 ingredients on hand…

The Recovery of the Monarch
A Review of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King This one finally explains some of Gollum’s back story. Which I found helpful for understanding his motivation throughout the other films. This one’s really gory in my opinion. I did not like that, but I understand that most of it was probably important to the story This one has more action though, and seemed more interesting to me. Turns out it’s called The Lord of the Rings because whoever holds the “main” one ring controls them all making him, you guessed it: The Lord of the Rings. I still think it’s still a super odd story but…

Fellowship for a Movie Night
A Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Movie Review I just watched the first Lord of the Rings movie for the first time. It was good, but it was also very long. Holy moly, so long. But I digress. I appreciate how impressive the cinematography is and how impressive the acting and storyline are. Though I’ll admit it was hard to follow at times. I especially enjoyed learning where some famous memes and quotes came from. That was probably the most fun for me. From “One does not simply…”, to “You shall not pass!”, there are a lot of famous moments in the first movie alone, so I’m…

The Perks of Social Media
I’ve mentioned before that I appreciate somethings about social media, not that it doesn’t have drawbacks, but it has merits as well. Let me explain. First, you can connect with far away friends. You can see what they’re up to in their daily lives, and connect with the then and there. You also aren’t as likely to lose contact with a friend either because you’re already connecting, I mean people change their names on social but you stay friends! I also enjoy the memories feature that some social apps nowadays have. Looking back at the years and see the reactions, the well wishes, the disappointments. There are also tons of…

The Glader Family Motorcyclists
This post starts with me giving a quick lesson on the pronunciation of my last name. It’s Glader. As in Glad-er. As in I’m Glader than you. Or I’m happier than you. Now that that is clear, I’ll move on. I grew up Baptist (and I still am) and homeschooled (when I was little). We are Midwesterners, living in the suburbs. Not exactly the poster family for motorcycling but here we are. One of my grandpas have ridden, my Dad and mom do, my Dad’s brother and my aunt, my great aunt and uncle too, even some of my cousins now, as well as family friends ride. I don’t say…

Living with Razor Sharp Convictions
What a great weekend its been at District Blitz! From helpful seminars and rallies to great moments with students and leaders alike. This weekend and the students have taught me things. Leadership should be a life of good examples not just telling people what is good and bad. It should be about not only correcting mistakes when they happen but also avoiding them by the way you lead. I went to a great seminar about convictions and I loved that the speaker talked about how important it is to stand by your Bible based/fact based convictions, but how to approach others with them as well. You shouldn’t hurt people with…

Do You Want to Go to Chapel?
Today I was looking through my documents and I found the parody of “Do you want to build a snowman? That I had written in my first year of college, shortly after the movie Frozen came out. I had started saying just the title phrase to my friends, and somebody suggested writing the full thing out so I did. It’s not perfect, but it is funny. Here it is, enjoy. Chorus 1 Do you want to go to chapel Come on let’s go and sing We never go anymore let’s go some more it’s like you want to stay away We used to all go and now we don’t i…

A Praxis Mascot?
At every educational institution I’ve been a part of there’s been a mascot, whether it’s been a knight, a hawk, or something else… with one excdeption, Praxis. Now whether it seems necessary or not I want to propose a Praxis mascot. Introducing Plato the Praxis Poodle. Why a poodle you ask? Just look at how the American Kennel Club describes these dogs: “Forget those old stereotypes of Poodles as sissy dogs. Poodles are eager, athletic, and wickedly smart “real dogs” of remarkable versatility. The Standard, with his greater size and strength, is the best all-around athlete of the family, but all Poodles can be trained with great success.” Sounds kind…

Choose Carefully
I need to choose joy more often, I need to see the good in more. I also need to celebrate the good more, from the big to the small. I need to share in the joy of others more, especially friend’s and family member’s. There are always times when you need other emotions but I think it’s easier to choose negative ones more than we should.
