Fun

The Fighting Loons

I enjoy sports, and while I don’t need to see every game, whether on tv or live, it’s fun to experience a game once in a while. This evening I had the opportunity to see the Minnesota United FC play at their new Allianz Field in St. Paul.

I went with the youth group I volunteer with at my church. It was fun to not only go with some familiar faces but to see my first live game at the new stadium. It was a nice space! It’s a unique looking space, it has comfy seats, though the rows are quite skinny. We had great seatings about 20 rows up from the left behind one of the nets. It was a beautiful evening, and well lit after dark too.

I think it’s really cool that Minnesota has so many cool pro sports teams, and that they’re across the metro area. Not only do we have the Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Twins, Wild, now we have the Loons, though I will say RIP Swarm, our former LaCrosse team. It’s fun to see Minnesota culture, and the vibe each of these sports bring come together, I love how all the teams have a Minnesota element to them. I also love how they’re all just “Minnesota” teams, compare that with Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Penguins, which are all named after cities. I think it not only brings the metro and rural areas of Minnesota together, it also means both of the twin cities cheer for both teams!

I did find it tricky at some moments to see the score among the ads scrolling on the screens. That and it took a while to get in, but other than that, I’d recommend checking out this new space, or at least cheering on the Minnesota United Fighting Loons *loon noise*

Oh, and the Loons won 6-1! #mnufc
