Everyone is Weird Until You Get to Know Them
You’ve heard the phrase: “Everyone is normal until you get to know them” Well even though it’s somewhat true, I’d like to turn this phrase on its head quick. I’ve met diverse groups of people throughout my life. Many people have surprised me on just how much they are like everyone else. This isn’t to say they aren’t weird exactly, or that they don’t have their own personality, or they’re not unique in their own right. What I mean here is that I met individuals in my life that I thought were somehow more impressive, or “special”, or “different” in some way. People are just that, people. We’re all created…

Why Not You?
I saw this question come up on the internet a while back and it got me thinking. You see it challenges you to think not only, why would something bad not happen to you, but also why would something good not happen? Okay its kind of hard to put into words, but stay with me. You see “why not you?” argues that they’re isn’t a good reason why the best or the worst can happen to you (outside of God’s will in your life). It argues that if you put in the work you have the potential to make great things happen, but if you trust God he can do…

Christ is Perfect, Christian Culture Isn’t
We as Christians live in a fallen world, therefore, even though we have a perfect savior our world is tainted by sin. From the numerous Christian dating books, to confusing Twitter banter, to some misleading pastors, and beyond. Christian culture has its faults, but there is hope. As long as Christ, and His perfect Word are at the center of ministry the church will be far better off. This starts with realizing that Christian books, that aren’t the Bible need to be taken with a grain of salt. From those written about dating as a Christian to even books that talk about those who believe they have been to heaven…

Style Matters
I’m hardly the most in vogue person, but I see the value in style and cultivating you’re own sense of it. I also think its important for everyone to consider what they’re own style is. Whether you’re a man or a woman there are certain things you can do to figure out what your style is and elevate it through research, and some experimentation. Here’s some tools I’ve found helpful for developing my style, though this is hardly the end all be all. Don’t know where to start with determining your style? Pick out three different stores that come to mind when you think of your style, or the style…

Energy and Me
Anyone who knows me knows I have tons of energy its part of the inspiration for a lot of what I do, from swing dancing to travel, to youth group and other things. What I’ve realized lately is that not only is my energy about being physically active it’s about my thoughts and just how quick and busy my brain is. This isn’t meant to be a humble brag, it’s about understanding that I sometimes get overwhelmed by what’s going on in my head and how much I can have going on at a given moment. I love spending my energy, by trying new things, and thinking out loud and…

Your Work Probably Won’t Last Forever
Unless you’re a chef you probably haven’t thought about this before, but hear me out when I say that even if your work doesn’t last forever that’s okay and you should still work hard at it. You see even some of the most impressive work will most likely fall by the wayside. People are already suspecting the fall of Facebook (though I personally think that’s a ways off). There have already been so many innovations/inventions that have been replaced by newer technology. It’s reasonable to think that we are far away yet still from some amazing technology. This all to say that your ideas or not important ideas. Ideas are…

Talk To Others How You Want to Be Spoken To
You’ve heard treat others how you want to be treated, and that is still as true as ever but today I want to add another layer. You see more recently I’ve spent a lot of time talking with those much younger and much older than me. I volunteer in youth group with high school and middle schoolers, but I also worked at a school staffed mostly by adults over 30 for a half year, and I enjoy meeting and talking with others from every generation in general. The thing is I kept my speech pretty consistent, I do my best to respect every person I spoke with. I’ll admit my…

Eat for the Job You Want
You’ve probably heard it said that you should dress for the job you want, but I would argue that how you eat plays into whether you can accomplish this. A nutritionist should be more acutely aware than anyone of what they’re eating and how it affects them, but an athlete has to eat far more calories than someone who mostly sits at a desk. A chef is more likely to try more unique foods than someone with various allergies. You may want to try other foods if you’re a travel blogger, or want to be one. An athlete has to eat far more calories, and then work out to burn…

The Benefit of Surprises
I know I talked about planned gifts back before Christmas, and sometimes how giving what someone expects can be helpful, but now I want to acknowledge the joy of surprises, for gifts and beyond. As far as other surprises go it can be fun to find them, from a new place to see, to a surprise dinner with friends, to a surprise birthday party. I think a surprise can be fun. I think the biggest benefit of surprises is the added joy. Because not only is there something cool happening, but you didn’t even know it would be happening. So go surprise someone you care about, whether it’s with a…

One for the Books
As I sit here in the LAX airport waiting for my flight I find myself thinking about everything that has happened on this trip, the new sites I’ve seen, the new people I’ve met, the ways I’ve challenged myself, I want to share some favorite moments and thoughts. I have been able to see things that I’ve been waiting for, like the ocean, which was fun, even if it was too cold to swim. Perhaps one of my favorite parts of the trip was visiting the Warner Brothers Studio, I had a great tour and learned a lot, and saw even more, from costumes from some of my favorite movies.…
