    Making Plans in 2019

It can be tricky. At the same time though, it’s easier. There are so many tools for planning events, and there are more ways to communicate than ever. So why is it so hard? Well in many cases no one had to commit until the last possible moment. There are so many things going on in the world that more people know about than ever, leading to a lot of FOMO (fear of missing out). I can sometimes be guilty of this. I try to make plans ahead of time, but it can be hard. Trying to line up schedules and decide on an activity, food, and transportation that everyone…

Do You Spur On Joy In Others?

I saw a website recently of a fellow believer, at least that’s what it said they were. The problem I saw was that their site didn’t leave me with any joy, it didn’t leave me inspired. Now not everything is meant to be joyful, sometimes peoples writing, and ideas should come behind us and support us with empathy. The problem was that this person’s website left me with nothing truly helpful (in my opinion), outside of some grammar guidance tips in a blog post. One of the goals I have in my blog is to share the lessons, and experiences I’ve had in hopes that what I’ve learned will help…

    Sales Is the Ultimate Skill

I am a marketer with sales skills. I learned from one of my Praxis advisors recently that I never stop being a marketer. I am a marketer who is in sales, working on her sales skills. In fact, I also took s sales-specific class in college. But I’m learning more in 8 and counting days on the job than I remember from that class. Because learning as you go is powerful and necessary. How are you framing what you’re doing? I’m a Business Development Representative. I’m also a crew member of a rocketship of a start-up being steered by an awesome CEO and CRO. I’m also part of a team…

It’s Not My Cabin Part Two

No, there wasn’t a part one, I’m just at another cabin this weekend and it felt applicable. I’m at my other cousin’s cabin this weekend, it’s very different but it’s still a lake and family, and honestly, those are the best parts, that and maybe the water skis. My cousins and uncle did a great job skiing, they all slalomed. They’re all good at it, and it was fun to watch them! I got to learn from my cousin about some of the techniques to use for me to drop a ski, and still balance. We grew up together, being the same age and all so to be back at…

    Home Sweet Search

I’ve been looking at realtor websites for like over a year, but I finally got approved for a mortgage. Just today I looked at my first two homes. Thankfully my folks were able to come along. It’s crazy how the last time I moved was nearly a decade ago. Our whole family participated in that search back when I was in middle school, we tried to all go to the showings, and we would imagine living there and see past cosmetic imperfections. In fact, we had to be in the selling and search process for about a year and a half, but that’s a story for another day. The first…

The Clothes, the Shoes, and the Wardrobe

See what I did there? 😉 Yeah I have a lot of clothes, as I’ve mentioned before my wardrobe is fairly diverse, but also very affordable, what with the number of pieces I have been given, and the number of clearance deals, I find, add on top the fact that I’m not growing out of hardly anything anymore. It doesn’t show any sign of downsizing. That said, I’ve also been scared of getting rid of items for lack of knowing what my work wardrobe would be upon getting a full-time role. Now that I know I can wear anything from smart casual to jeans and a vacation/company t-shirt, to even…

    Gentlemen and Ladies

I saw Guys & Dolls last night at the Guthrie Theatre with a friend. I was quite fun, especially after having seen the old movie a couple of times previously. The best actor/actress at the show last night was the woman who played Miss Adelaide. She was really fun and did a good job with the role. Most everything was spot on, but her performance stood out. It was interesting to see how the stage set changed the show as a whole. It was hardly a bad change, but it just meant a different dynamic. I was surprised by how much I liked the on-stage performances of Sky and Nathan,…

When Sales Works and Helps Someone

In my new role, I’ve called a number of businesses in an effort to see if they’d find our product helpful. Although the person on the other end of the line can be a bit apprehensive at first, when my coworker has visited he’s come back with great notes, about how the client is excited to use our services. This all got me thinking about what I used to think of sales and a post I wrote a while back on how good salesmen (and women) are not the enemy. I believe a good salesman is not one that pushes beyond what they should. I’m talking about salesmen that have…

    Work-Life Balance

My new job is great already, it’s an awesome environment that I believe will only get even better over time! The balance even goes beyond work and life. Even during work, there are sure to be levels of balance. Whether it’s being on the phone for a solid half hour with different prospects at certain times, engaging with coworkers about various sales or marketing tactics, or even having an all-team meeting once a week. There are various important elements that keep a workforce engaged while avoiding burn out. I can already tell that this present at Dispatch. While there are clear goals, there’s also an open office setting as I…

    Provide a Solution

At Dispatch, the goal is to remedy bad delivery services for businesses. That is, Dispatch has found a pain point and found a solution, and made it easy for businesses to integrate it. One of my bosses mentioned that we’re a sort of pain reliever to businesses, not only in how we are able to provide service but also in how we’re able to save our clients money. Think about what you can do to provide a solution either to a business or to any given individual. Can you help a business run more effectively, or could you perhaps make life better for others? This is all of course just…
