Quotes
We like them because we have reason to believe they’ve been thought through because we see value in them or we like what the person who said them has done. Quotes often become famous when they have their real world or perhaps universal application. The first few who said “be careful what you wish for” may have been told they were crazy. After all, if you want it why couldn’t it be a good thing if that was all it had been in the past? This is a simple example but it gives a good framework for this idea. So next time you have an idea don’t think that it’s…

Is any credit card debt okay?
I’ve talked about having a credit card, and how that’s helped me. I recently read a question: “How much credit card debt is too much for a young adult?” The answer? Any credit card debt that can’t be paid within the month or billing cycle) without going into debt is too much and going to do more harm in the future. Does that mean everyone will always be able to avoid it? Perhaps not, but it should never be seen as something that is a good idea, or something that is a way out or a viable option. Be careful with your money, be even more careful with money that…

Impervious and Nearly Perfect
I live in Minnesota. A wet, snowy, windy, dry, sunny, cloudy place, sometimes all in the same day. It’s hard to buy and put together a good wardrobe for this weather, sometimes it’s even hard to find the right products, but In the last two years I have found some stellar options. Here’s my list for my best water proof gear (with one water resistent option as well. Vessi Footwear Trainers (worn in photo) : Honestly these are amazing, and worth the price in my opinion, they are the most expensive shoes I own, but I’m okay with that. They really are waterproof, for starters. I’ve even stuck my foot…

Pop Up Shop
I’ve visited stores like these before. These are usually stores that are hosting a temporary location, where they’ll move in with their top product lines, and then leave in about a month. In other cases, its an “experience” and the pop-up space is about design and fun elements to explore with friends and photography. This month was different though. Through my contract work agency, I got the chance to be part of setting up a pop-up clothing store from New York. It was interesting to see it come together in a local photography studio, and then take down the operation afterward. Building a business from the ground up and then…

No Matter Your Politics, Think Greener, I mean, Why Not?!
I’m not the greenest thumb on the planet, but I am for being intentional. What does that look like? I understand that we need to be good stewards of what we’ve been given and that includes our wonderful planet. I love that there are so many companies and individuals making an effort to create businesses from that, it means more money naturally goes to these endeavors and boosts our overall economy. The harder people work to create great renewable, value-driven products, and services the better off most everyone is. As long as you don’t pressure others to go with your way of thinking or demand the government put (usually) inefficient…

The Perks of Social Media
I’ve mentioned before that I appreciate somethings about social media, not that it doesn’t have drawbacks, but it has merits as well. Let me explain. First, you can connect with far away friends. You can see what they’re up to in their daily lives, and connect with the then and there. You also aren’t as likely to lose contact with a friend either because you’re already connecting, I mean people change their names on social but you stay friends! I also enjoy the memories feature that some social apps nowadays have. Looking back at the years and see the reactions, the well wishes, the disappointments. There are also tons of…

The Economic Choice
Liking the cheaper version of something is hardly wrong, this can relate to food, beverage or software, or other products in general, even education. I like getting a good deal, on anything from food to furniture. I don’t need the best of everything or the “highest quality” choice for everything. It’s not wrong to like those things, but there are some things that I genuinely like the cheaper version of more, at least for now. There are many cases of getting what you pay for in terms of quality, so don’t avoid higher prices in all cases. That and be careful of going too cheap. Don’t feel bad that you…

A Faith for All Contexts
Inform your faith for all contexts. No matter where you’re working (or volunteering) right now. We pray for missionaries and their work in other countries, but we remember to pray for our close Christ-following friend’s workplaces, this where they spend a lot of their time, and where they have a chance to show Christ’s love. That being said, pray for the mission work that happens in businesses that your friends, family, and congregation are a part of. That isn’t to say its always appropriate to share with others about your faith at work. Instead, love on others and let your light shine through that. Students also need a personal faith.…

Investing in Generosity
Investing, and donating is hard; especially for kids, they often can’t see where the money is going or fully understand how it helps others. Sometimes it’s hard for people of all ages though, in most cases we’ve worked hard for our money and if we worry about not having much leftover at the end of the day it can be hard to give some away. That said, there are two ways to see money: as things, and as an expression of your values. This is a challenge for someone of any age. Money is a tool, a very important one, but only a tool. Using money to invest in yourself…

There’s No One Element to Getting a Job
Take it from a gal who has edited her resume, website, and made projects for numerous job applications. It starts with a resume. That’s not where it ends but it starts here so you have one list that, if nothing else, you can focus on. Having a resume allows you to track your progress, visually and see every element on one page. This week I helped my sister improve her resume from what I’ve learned she may be an education major, but many of the same elements applied and I guided here Next is your website. Even if it’s a free one, have one to send people to put all…
