The Holiday Season
I love Christmas, but I tend to say my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, I’m probably biased because fall is my favorite season and November is my birthday month. Every November 1st the same question comes up, is it the start of the “holiday season today or not?”. I would usually argue no. I think the gift of Christmas, that is Christ’s birth, should be celebrated and appreciated all year long. But the holiday can be something celebrated mostly after Thanksgiving has passed. I believe there’s too much to be celebrated at Thanksgiving for us to call it part of the “holiday” season. And by the way, it’s in quotes because I think it should be called the Christmas season.
Thanksgiving is when families, like mine, get the chance to be together while just to be thankful for everything God has provided, and eat. It’s a simply wonderful holiday. I don’t want it to be overshadowed like it is. Now I’ll also admit that I’ve put up my tree in mid-November before, but I will note that it didn’t involve convincing anyone else to do the same. All that said Thanksgiving is not a part of the Christmas season.
So enjoy Christmas music, and decorations, and the like, but please also let me enjoy November as the Thanksgiving season, and a season of appreciation, and the continuation of autumn. #happythanksgiving #merrychristmas
