It’s Not Free

I just read something from someone I follow that read that anything that’s required to live should be free. There’s so much more wrong with that than I want to cover, or can cover in this blog post, but hear me loud and clear, it can’t be free because it costs something to produce. Unless you go to a public park and drink from the stream, or have food that grows or is raised on your own land. It can’t be free. Someone had to produce the food you buy, the place you live, and the clothes you wear, and they deserve to be paid for that.

In a functioning society, everyone has different contributions to society that make it so you can provide value to others to make a living, and purchase value from others with that earned living. It’s not that complicated. God wants us to be kind to one another but nowhere in the Bible does God say to redistribute wealth. In fact, He rebukes a man who wants Jesus to force his brother to share his inheritance because of the envy Jesus sees in the man’s request, Jesus’ reply is that He is not the judge of the situation.

Again this is barely scratching the surface but I felt a need to address it at least a little because of how very backward and wrong the idea of “free stuff” is.
