I’ve Got a Desk!
I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but after having jumped between so many different contract roles, its a welcome change to have a company computer, workspace, and soon to be phone that is mine.
I went to my first company meeting on Wednesday actually and it was wonderful. I enjoyed hearing about what the company is doing, what the team has already accomplished and to be a part of such a stellar group. In fact, even remote employees from all across the country join this call. Before these meetings have been so temporary at contract roles as I know its nothing permanent to get excited about, and didn’t work for those individual companies for that matter. Now I can be a contributor, and look to the future with the company.
Because it’s a startup, my boss joked that many people build their desks, I actually got his because he got a slightly bigger one. I love that it’s a sit-stand one and that I’m stationed within a big group. Our desks are all right next to each other; I love how there are no cubicles. We don’t need the space either really because almost everything is digital and I already like that as well! All I need at my desk is my computer, backpack, phone, nameplate, company mug, and maybe some fake-flowers or something else to add personality to my little space, and I’ll be great!
I even got the chance to talk casually with the CEO today during my training. He came over and we talked about our university experiences, along with a few of my coworkers. I’m so thankful for even simple things like that!
While I will probably move around the office area as even the month goes on, I’m excited to see where this role takes me. As one of my bosses likes to say, there’s no bad seats – or standing desk spots, that is – on a rocket ship! But more on that at a later date!
