What could you teach through images? Or do you just need words?
Everyone knows that old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words”. I’ll add to that that a memory may be worth a thousand pictures, but I really do like pictures.
That said, what could you teach through images? Could you draw a doodle to help a child understand something simple like the water cycle? Could you show a friend an image of your trip to convince them to join you on the next one? Could you use screenshots and diagrams to teach your Grandma how to use her smartphone more effectively so you could easily chat more?
Maybe you would rather teach with words, I get that. For instance, I know that it’s better to explain something to my dad by drawing it out if possible. but I also know that my Mom is an avid reader, and note taker and I would probably just talk with her about something or recommend a book on something if I wanted to teach her.
Now we have more podcasts, pictures, and videos than ever as well. You should be discerning about what content you consume but you should always be looking for more sources of knowledge.
Maybe learning through pictures is why so many people pursue photography whether it’s on a professional or hobbyist level. You can communicate even more effectively through pictures if you know how to create the mood you want through an image and create the right kind of composition.
I know I find a lot of value in photo captions though, I want to know what the person who created the image is thinking about it.
How do you communicate? @katherineglader
