A State of Mind that is Helpful
I’ve read that “poor is a mindset, broke is a place you’re just passing through” – Dave Ramsey. I understand that not having much disposable income can totally be just a season, but I see value in having a “poor” mindset to keep you on track for your goals during a different kind of season.
For me, I try to live frugally, now more than ever. I am always trying to be very aware of how much money I spend. Sometimes that means I have a “poor” mindset. What I mean by that is that I have to limit myself in this season of my life so I can get to bigger goals more quickly that will provide for far more disposable income in the future. This all to say that I’m not broke, I simply can’t spend much money right now because of some goals, and therefore have to almost pretend as if I don’t have money to begin with.
Money is a tool. Having a good mindset about it means that you know your limits, and the good they’ll do for you. If you always think and act like you’re rich you probably won’t be for long. But if you can spend your money frugally, and work hard to get yourself out of debt, or being cash-strapped, it can mean a world of difference. Just never believe you’re permanently stuck being poor.
