How to Plan a Budget Conscious Wedding
a NON exhaustive guide My husband(!) and I recently got married and I read all the blogs, I listend to all the Podcasts, I watched all the videos about how to plan a wedding, both in general and on a budget. My biggest points of advice include venue advice, food, decor, and budget as a whole. The venue is what should probably nailed down first especially if you are not committed to a certain date yet. We got married at a church, and I loved that decision especially if you care at all about budget and if you’re a fellow believer, city park facilities are the next best option in…

Millennial Pink Isn’t Dead
It just isn’t “trendy” anymore. Ever loved a fad, and was sad when you were told it was out of style? I’ve never been one to be good with staying up to date with the latest trends, at least in terms of fashion, or home decor, and no I’ve never owned a real designer handbag, unless I’m a better thrift store shopper than I thought! I have found things I liked by looking at trends, from deep florals, to champagne tones, to the beauty of a black and white pallet, to how I curated my pseudo mid-century modern aesthetic. But to a large extent, I don’t make a point of…

Peopleships
This was a term we made up at camp when I worked there – it was to describe any kind of human connection really from family relationships, to couples, to friends, to colleagues, your church congregation, and everything else. As a team, we realized it was a helpful way to describe these instead of relationships at camp. I’ve tried to learn a lot about peopleships over the years, figuring out how to best relate to others and see how I fit in my peopleships. Now though it can be harder than ever to figure people out, there’s politics in everything and I’m not talking about the government. I’m talking about…

The Biggest Danger of Shopping Clearance/Specials/Going Out of Business Sales
The “it’ll be gone next time” dilemma. I recently bought a couple of things, not huge ticket items but between it all I had spent a little over $100, I had found some items on clearance, and wanted to make sure I got them. I quickly returned most of it, I still have a few items sitting around to decide on, but I realized the deal was half the reason I was buying them. Now don’t get me wrong clearance is still valuable, and I would’ve used the stuff, but what I (and my Mother) remind myself of is that there will always be more deals. They’re will always be…

A Different Kind of Seasonal Shopping
I realized late-summer that I needed to invest in quality sandals, good thing too – as prices were just going down. I’ve known for a while to shop for various items out of season. From picking up new fall boots in November to finding a swimsuit in mid-July. There are somethings you can totally get away with buying at the end of the season. About a month ago, I found new sandals at REI, I only recently got my membership and realized it could be a good time to pick up their somewhat-overpriced sandals – while they were on clearance. I was right. The trick is to not be bothered…

It Was Objectively Interesting
It’s been 4 weeks since my adventure at The Objective Standard Conference (TOS_Con) in Park City, Utah, but I just realized I hadn’t written a blog post about it yet. I t was such a great adventure, and although, smaller, longer, and different from FEE-Con it was also very valuable. I learned a lot. I also had a ton of fun, that said FEECon was a better conference, it helped that there were more young people there. TOS-Con had some amazing and unique sessions. Some were more interesting to me than others, and some I admittedly didn’t enjoy but there were others I was ecstatic about. I used to hate…

Don’t stop with awesome, keep going.
I learned a lot at FEEcon this past weekend, and although I won’t be able to repeat all of it, here are some more thoughts. One of my favorite speakers was Dewitt Jones, a National Geographic photographer who did his first film project at 23 and has traveled the globe grabbing wonderful shots and learning about his skills along the way. See his website here: https://dewittjones.com/ (all quotes in this post are from Jones’) I want to share some of what he shared during his keynote presentation and add some of my own analysis. “Don’t be competitive with anyone else, you have your own set of skills.” (paraphrased). Understand that…

The Newer Cook in the Kitchen
Are you learning to cook more or wanting to? Here are my thoughts as I learn a couple more dishes from my Mom, and experiment a little with food for myself before moving out. I love hotdish (or casserole) and I just made one all myself his evening for dinner for my family. I actually kind of liked making it because it’s one of my favorite kinds of dishes. That said if you’re new to cooking try an approachable dish, preferably a favorite kind of dish. Learn dishes you grew up with, and maybe try a version of your favorite restaurant dish. The other thing to remember is that there…

What Have You Got To Lose?
If you try something, apply to something, ask something etc. Often times there is a lot to lose by making a certain choice, whether that’s time, money, or resources, or maybe even relationships, but that doesn’t mean there always is, or that it outweighs the wins. When I apply for jobs I realize that sending in an application hardly hurts me. It takes a couple of minutes, and I could find my dream job. That said, I really like responding to job openings that ask for a “Google Jobs” form reply or an email reply, it allows for either a streamlined process or plenty of information and creativity. When I…

What to do With Used Clothes
I’ve been fortunate over the years to be given clothes, find good deals, and to have found some great pieces overall over the years. Though sometimes I wonder what to do with the stuff that doesn’t work for me anymore, whether my style has changed, or I’ve outgrown something or whatnot. So here are some ideas of where you can send clothes when you’re done Poshmark – For stuff that’s better shape and you don’t have a better place to give it. This website is easy to list on but if your stuff isn’t findable among the rest, or you can’t get good pictures it may not work, beware: you…
