Send Me a Postcard
My parents recently left on a vacation that’s been a decade in the making. I kid you not. They just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary (congrats Mom and Dad!). They had a celebratory dinner on the actual day at the cafe (read: restaurant) where they had their wedding rehearsal dinner, and now they’re celebrating together on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii. They’ve gone on trips before but neither one of them has been there yet, and it’s been on their bucket lists for, again, at least a decade, probably longer.
Before they left my Mom and I talked in the car about what they should bring home for me, I told her a postcard, just like I do for every trip she’s asked me this question on. I then paused a moment and then said, “Better yet Mom, send me a postcard”. It’s so obvious, and perhaps old fashioned but I’m excited to get a postcard with some quick in the moment thoughts about their trip, hopefully, complete with a Hawaii stamp with a Luau or surfer on it.
They may be middle-aged, but I fully expect to hear about adventures and times of relaxation alike, and about the history they’ll see in person (read: Pearl Harbor), as that’s one of our family’s favorite parts of trips as a whole as well.
So if you’re ever wondering what to get me, leave room in your suitcase for your own finds and instead grab a postcard and pen and just mail me a souvenir. Though if you want to bring me a leftover coin of native currency that would be cool too, I guess. I can’t wait to hear from you.
