Minnesota Celebrities

It was Prince’s birthday yesterday, and I was invited to a “birthday party” of sorts. It was all about his music and life, there were a bunch of people from hist inner circles there, which was quite cool.

It got me thinking about Minnesota, and our celebrities, versus other states and place. As I thought about it briefly last night, and this morning Prince, Charles Schultz, Judy Garland, Jonah Frantzich (Marais), and Adam Young of Owl City were the ones that came to mind. This diverse cast of characters is interesting to consider, the different impacts they made the different parts of the state they came from and what not. That said I’ll stick to Prince here for today.

I love a quote of his that I reminded myself of recently, “I like Hollywood. I just like Minneapolis a little bit better.” (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/prince_751816) I love that he, in so few words acknowledges the value of both places while realizing how wonderful the place he was from truly was and is. Minnesota may not be perfect but it is just a little bit better most times. I know that since having been to Hollywood, and learning more about the area, I resonate with this quote!

So know where your from no matter where you live, and respect the places you move to and/or visit. Prince loved Minnesota all his life. He certainly traveled a lot and enjoyed other places as well, but Minnesota was his home. Prince was a very odd fellow, none the less, I hope I can have that attitude all my life about Minnesota, and do one better hopefully: make it a better place too!
