How to Shop Like I Do
Between my best friend and my mother teaching me how to bargain shop like a pro, and loving finding new styles I’ve tried to find ways to stretch every dollar while also getting timeless clothes.
There’s some rules of thumb for my methods.
- Shop wherever you like, with a list, and if you like anything else, take a picture of it, and consider it for at least 24 hours, or call or text someone and ask for their opinion if you can justify it to them, you may have a winner.
- Clearance is your friend, but it’s not perfect, sometimes stores stock way too much of a great item, and this is great for you especially if you shop in the wrong season for things. That is to say, if you don’t need it, don’t buy it EVEN IF ITS A GOOD DEAL, that last part has been a more recent lesson, and a hard one to learn, but a good one.
- Always know the return policy, always always always. You see big box stores are pretty good about this. Target, for instance, has at least a 90 money back policy. Forever 21, on the other hand, will ONLY GIVE STORE CREDIT, this doesn’t sound bad until you spend $60 there, want to return it and then realize you don’t want anything else, or that you would rather spend it elsewhere afterward. I stay away from this store a lot now unless it’s for “
inspo “, but even then it’s hard to look around some days. Watch out for “fashion brands” in general sometimes it will even depend on the type of payment used (!) - Leave tags on for a hot minute if you can, why not!? Then you can have every reason to return it but you can see it next to the rest of your wardrobe.
There are obviously more things you should keep in mind
