Art in Motion (Picture)

Throughout history, different art forms have been doubted, from the novel to the movie to the video game. Many in society saw movies s as being too different when they first came into existence to be seen as art, critics claim they were too complicated, commercialized, or counter-culture. 

When the movie came about many wanted to call it an art form but that was soon challenged as many people wanted to pin down a particular artist for each film. The problem was that even for the greatest motion picture works, this was and is largely impossible. 

Critics would judge that directors were writing what the audience wanted. Cantor points out that that directors actually were and are original they were just inspired by their audience. I liked this outlook, as I believe this concept is a  nod to painters who were commissioned to create a piece of choice by a customer of a given artist.

Great work like movies comes about because of numerous talented people. It comes about because writers can develop lines for actor’s who can be directed, so that producers can put different cuts together to form a coherent, compelling story, and that’s just scratching the service of the roles involved.

To quote Cantor: “Art is just a matter of luck”. I feel that this is only somewhat true. An artist has to have the right skills, but if they have a unique art form society may not see the artistry at first. Unless the artist is thinking about how to please the market or their own patrons.

So what kind of art form will scare our culture in the future? Who knows, but you could almost bet it will be hard to understand as art at first, but it could be amazing.
