Christ is Perfect, Christian Culture Isn’t

We as Christians live in a fallen world, therefore, even though we have a perfect savior our world is tainted by sin.

From the numerous Christian dating books, to confusing Twitter banter, to some misleading pastors, and beyond. Christian culture has its faults, but there is hope. As long as Christ, and His perfect Word are at the center of ministry the church will be far better off.

This starts with realizing that Christian books, that aren’t the Bible need to be taken with a grain of salt. From those written about dating as a Christian to even books that talk about those who believe they have been to heaven and back, among other topics; many of them have a lot of good to say but I think sometimes distract us from the word that is actually inspired by God in the Bible.

Twitter is a great space for reading others thoughts, and potentially partaking in the conversation, as long as you still compare what you read to the Bible and ask for God’s guidance in your thoughts. Twitter can be misleading especially because some of the loudest people are often still wrong, or they are misinformed.

Misleading pastors are perhaps the most frustrating. Their congregations trust them, but whether they know it or not, they’re messages are misleading because they’re not preaching the truth, they’re preaching what the world wants to hear. I’m immensely thankful that the pastors at my church are consistently bringing each message, and its surrounding points back to the Bible, and they’re telling the church what is right and what is wrong according to God. They have such a love for God’s people and the lost while seeing the value and necessity of the truth, and preaching it.

A lot of today’s culture is about feelings over facts, that isn’t to say we shouldn’t show love, because that is hugely important as well. It is to say that we can’t brush over the hard truths in the world, and that we need to look to God as our ultimate guidance. Jesus is perfect and although its hard for imperfect people to lead others to Him, through His power in us it can be done.
