Why You Should Change Your Car Oil Regularly

I certainly don’t claim to be an expert on cars, but I have learned a couple of lessons since getting my license at 16, owning two separate vehicles, and commuting to college and now work.  I love driving around especially with friends, or to places like camp, or my friends who live out of town. So I strive to keep my vehicle in top shape.

Everyone wants to make their car last, and oil changes are a relatively easy and cheap way to help make that happen. Oil changes help your car run more efficiently. They also keep your engine cleaner, and effective. So if you like your car, or at least want to keep it running, get the oil changed.

Oil changes help to clean the vehicle engine and keep the system in better condition. On a technical level, when oil breaks down it becomes less effective at lubricating an engine, so not only do you want to remove the leftover, you’ll want new oil to continue getting the job done.

Consistent oil changes are also important for every age of car, and every type of car since they help with the longevity in general. Because the engine doesn’t have to do as much of the hard work in making the car run smoothly getting oil changes means the more expensive parts need work far less often.

Oil changes also improve gas mileage 1-2% because of the increased lubrication. This means you’ll spend less on gas throughout the year!

They also prevent your car from getting overheated because there will be less friction within the components when you get fresh oil.

Then there’s the timing, most car repair places will suggest at least twice a year. What I do is get one in the spring and fall, it’s a way to usher in the new season of driving really. That way if you live in a cold climate you won’t have to worry about it during the coldest months either.

Make small investments to ward off the larger problems. I may not be a mechanic or particularly knowledgable on cars, but I have owned two and this has helped me keep them working better.
