Doncha Know About the Minnesota State Fair?

Yeah I’m a Minnes”Oh”tan, and I’ve got a bit of the accent to match. It’s a heck of a deal, I’ve also lived up north before. There is a tradition that most of us from this great state acknowledge, the Minnesota State Fair. The “12 days of fun”, or “Great Minnesota get together” if you prefer. I grew up going nearly every year. I thought I’d go this year as I will probably be moving away soon. So here’s what my home state’s fair is about.  Every Minnesotan who goes has their list of favorite things from food, to exhibit, to shows, and shops. So here we go: I love…

10 Things I Learned in Europe

I went on a study abroad trip in college. It was for the majority of the month of January 2017. We went to 7 seven countries. It was amazing. The class was “the history of science in Europe” and was really interesting for me despite being a business major, plus I needed the credit to graduate. Between the content and it being my first time to the other hemisphere I  learned a lot.  As a kid, I was afraid to go anywhere without my family so I surprised myself when I realized I wanted to travel. When I found out my university, Bethel, offered the class and I was interested…

    A Balancing Act

Most people have a stupid human trick or some quirky skill. I was kind of frustrated as a kid when I had nothing to show at a camp talent show or, my school So I started looking for a challenge. While looking through a unique toy catalog when I was little I stumbled across something I had seen people do, but wondered if I could master it myself. It was a pair of stilts. This was something that none of my friends were asking for, but also not something that would be too hard, or expensive for me to at least try. So, on the birthday list, it went. When…

    Antique Cars, and Stockyards

A lot of people even those from the surrounding area, have never heard of my city, New Brighton. It’s in the Twin Cities, a suburb of the capital, St. Paul. But there is some cool history in our little suburban city. Every year the city host “Stockyard Days” a week and a half of activities, and celebration, for the town, looking back at our history and celebrating our city. New Brighton started out as a cattle raising and trading town, the town has always sat along a railroad, and this made it a perfect place for the trade, especially since it was still within reach of the Twin Cities. It…

    Swing Dancing: A Hobby

Swing dancing is a fun way for me to stay active, hang out with friends, listen to fun music, and develop a rather unique skill. It’s something that anyone who can walk could, in theory, take up to some extent. These days I go to swing dances as often as I can and try to learn stuff along the way. When I was a freshman in high school, I went to a youth group retreat, while there, there was an evening dance, complete with swing dance lessons, and a youth groups full of kids interested in learning how to dance. There I learned the basics of swing dancing for the…

    More than Camping

For the last week of July, I decided to volunteer at camp. It’s a Bible camp called Camp Lebanon. I had interned there in college for marketing and loved every minute of it. I’ve also been to young adult retreats there. I was so happy to volunteer for the ministry that I got to work for. I also believe every kid should go to camp at least once growing up. I grew up going to camp, but technically a different one. I started going to Koronis Bible Camp from literally the beginning of my life because my entire family also grew up going to camp, and it’s a family camp so we…
