Summer Camp Ministry

I have had the privilege of counseling/volunteering at three different camps.

Lost Timber Bible Camp

Back in high school, I counseled a group of elementary school girls, I worked with a senior counselor for that week and enjoyed learning with the girls and comforting them. Little did I know that later on, I would be the small group leader for two of them in junior high ministry. I was able to learn with them in chapel, play games with them, swim with them, and enjoy meals with them. During the week I was also playing my guitar with the band, this made for an interesting challenge but a good one, and all the kids went home happy at the end of the week. My favorite memory of the week would be sitting in the cabin with the girls and talking about lessons and getting to pray for each of the girls.

Koronis Bible Camp

I grew up going to this camp as did my mom and her parents. When my cousin, who runs the kids’ ministry side of the camp contacted me about counseling, I was excited to see people from camp again and give back to the ministry that I had loved as a camper. I worked there for a week and counseled a group of 9 girls. I worked on a team with one other female counselor who had 10 girls in her cabin, and two male counselors who each had their own cabin. It was a joy to work with the whole group and grow together over the course of that week. I shared my personal testimony with all the kids at the camp and invested in providing new and unique experiences for the kids with the directors’ permission. During the week I had one-on-one conversations with each of the girls and got the chance to learn about their lives. In addition, I followed up with letters home afterward and was asked to come back if I had the time in the future.

Camp Lebanon

I decided to volunteer for a week at camp the summer of 2018. I signed up originally to be program staff but had somewhat hoped to counsel. None the less I went to camp happy to help the senior high week of camp run smoothly and give the students a great experience. I was part of decorating for theme dinners, helping run laser tag, and handing out swimming wristbands, among other small projects. I was also paired with a girl’s cabin to help out with and mentor throughout the week. So I got the chance to swim with them and take my meals with them. Towards the end of the week, the counselor of the cabin I was helping with had to leave camp for a personal emergency so I got the chance to step in as the girl’s counselor for the end of the week. I was sad to see the counselor leave, but I was happy and ready to step in as best I could.
