Unexpectedly Wonderful

I went to my tenth GracePoint student ministries Christmas party last night, between being a student and a volunteer, and being a part of senior and junior high groups, I’ve had my fair share of these parties, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s fun to dig out my “ugly” Christmas sweater, and find old, funny things from around the house for the white elephant gift exchange, and see who will “pick” my gift.

After the party, I got talking with the pastor. I’ll be leaving soon for my apprenticeship soon and I wanted to touch base with him about the direction I’m headed. We got to talk about what I’m doing and how to “expect the unexpected” to a certain extent. It was a good reminder.

Now I know I talked about optimism in another post but I was reminded that that although I need to stay positive, I also need to understand that what I may want to happen, and what I may perhaps be excited for, may not be what happens; and that’s okay becasue God’s in control, and that’s what’s best.

I was surprised to learn the kind of connections he wanted to tell me about. I have been astonished at the kind of connections I’ve made in life, and the people I’ve met, and where, from the creator of my favorite show at university, to my second cousin when he came to speak at my university, to the CEO of a local marketing agency when I was working at a school, to a former volunteer youth leader who works in the talent industry. Even if the connections haven’t always helped me in my career, it’s been wonderful being inspired by these people’s stories, and often following their social media to be further inspired.

One of my favorite things about this blog is not only the challenge, and enjoyment of it, but the fact that I’m writing down so many of the little lessons that I come across in life, beyond classes, business, and even dancing, and hockey, more than that I’ve learned about how to improve myself, my outlook, as well as how I relate to others.

So even though we can’t know the future, be excited for the unexpected, whether its experiences, connections, or lesssons, or something else, and know that life can change on a dime.

Timing is a crazy thing.
