Styles and Spaces

I love interior design, you can change so much about a space just by changing a wall color, switching up a couple pieces of decor, or adjusting your wall decor layout. Throughout the years I’ve kept an air of cute and stylish in my bedroom, but I’m always thinking about how my space can better reflect my personal style and lifestyle,

Since I was about 7 actually my mom actually let me be part of choosing my bedding and wall colors. The only problem in my mind at that time was that I couldn’t get the Hello Kitty comforter I wanted because I had a double bed and not a twin. So I settled on a beautiful cat themed quilt and white curtains with pink accents. I also asked my mom to paint my walls pink and to put up the embroidery my aunt made for me. Despite the old furniture in my room at that time the room was cute and quaint. I still hang up the embroidery work on my wall to this day, as it was personalized by my aunt with my name and birthday.

Moving on to about 6th grade and I was feeling over pink at the time, so with a lot more help from my mom I picked out a new comforter, this time it was daisies with blue and green background and sunny yellow walls. I even got crafty and made pillows in the shape of my initials and some other throw pillows. I even added a desk to my room for some time which helped make the space more about my new predicament, homeschooler turned public schooler needing a quiet space to do homework after school.

Well my family moved across the city a couple of years later, and my parents saw furniture on clearance and wanted to update our rooms for the new house, giving my sister and I each a bookshelf as we entered high school and a full-size desk, we also got to pick out new bedding. Believe it or not it was back to pink for me again! This time though I selected a baby pink and chocolate brown starburst pattern to go with my crisp white furniture. It felt so grown up and I was happy with my choice. Now my walls had posters a bulletin board, and postcards on them. I also had some cheap decorations and knick-knacks out but that was okay for a high school student.

Fast forward to last year and my mom finishing my t-shirt quilt. I still like the brown and pink bedspread, but I immediately knew that I wanted to show off the quilt even if it didn’t match my brown curtains…yet. Now I have some beautiful canvas prints, a giant initial “K” and some of my typography on my walls. So, now I see more creativity around me than ever.

So change up your space a little, even if it means just turning your bed to face a window, or taking down old magazine fold posters. Let your space reflect your style as much as you can to encourage your own creativity and don’t forget to hang some personal photos as well.
